I maintained a journal throughout my year of student-teaching in which I wrote at least two to three times a week. I used the journal to reflect upon my teaching experiences, trying to decide if something was effective or not. I sometimes compared and critiqued my practice, and what I saw around me through the lenses of various texts that I read during the year. My teaching journal also provided me with data that I used to plan subsequent lessons. Writing about what worked, and what didn’t, about a particular lesson, helped me to make decisions about how to proceed in the following lesson(s). |
