Navy Corpsman, United States Navy
August 2005 - August 2009: My time in the Navy, witnessing extreme poverty, the experience of war, left me with a vested interest in social justice and freedom. My military experience has developed into a passion for understanding education and how best to be an educator.
Agricultural Field Worker
Summers of 2002-2004: Harvesting cherries, hoeing beats and other vegetables, and de-tasseling corn around the Treasure Valley were activities that I participated in throughout my childhood. I credit these activities with fostering in me a sense of solidarity with Latina/Latino folks, and politicizing my perspective to some degree. My experience as a field worker has also informed my desire to work with young, brown folks as an educator.
